Most classic  bikes need a little attention at some point, hard used 70s road bikes sometimes more, but a bike which was made , & presumably bought, for the purpose of racing  is bound to need a lot of attention. Rarely were they rebuilt at the end of a season & retired, most would be run for that last seasons racing on a shoestring budget with fingers crossed that nothing (else?) would break.
